Psychotherapy helps us to improve our relationship with ourselves, promotes adaptive change; and increases our resilience to future adversity. If you’re looking for an English speaking therapist in Barcelona or Online: get in touch by email, phone, or whatsapp for more information.
Why is Psychotherapy useful?
Strain and anxiety and loss are universal experiences. Therapy is a way of creating space to attend to our concerns and our emotional world rather than avoiding or ignoring these. Expressing ourselves consistently and receiving non-judgemental feedback is a reliable means of organising and processing experiences, emotions, thoughts and feelings. Psychotherapy doesn’t only facilitate coping and promote change, it actively improves the relationship with have with ourselves. Some of the things that motivate people to do therapy:
To be happier
Persistent negative states: anxiety, panic, depression
To come to terms with past trauma
To improve relationships with self and others
To work on behavioural issues and concerns
Facing loss, change, decisions
A desire for self-knowledge
My approach to psychotherapy
I take a pragmatic stance towards psychotherapy methodology and theory. All the major schools of psychotherapy contain insight whilst all have their limitations too. From my point of view, rigorous training in more than one method offers greater scope for insight and flexibility in order to meet varied client needs. To this end, I have studied three approaches to psychotherapy in depth at a master’s or postgraduate level: psychodynamic or psychoanalytic psychotherapy, constructivist therapy, and Gestalt therapy.
